The Passive House principle was discovered using scientific principles and inspiration from buildings, scientists, and industry professionals across the globe. Interestingly, the first fully functioning passive house was not actually a house, but a polar ship named “Fram”. It was built at the end of the 18th century to carry Norwegian explorer Fridtjof Nansen to the North Pole.

A passive house is a house that is consciously engineered, designed, and built with the input of over 30 years of building science. These homes are resistant to unexpected climatic conditions to protect the health, comfort, and financial security of the people who live in them.
